What is the current situation
How can I help?
Just about all of the items, tools, food, and books in the storage rooms of the Osmanische Herberge were destroyed by the force of the flood. Since the lower area was still flooded throughout the night, all electrical appliances, almost all kitchen equipment, beds and mattresses had to be disposed of. The water was also very dirty as many chemicals, oil and gasoline spilled in the upstream industrial plants and private houses. All wooden paneling, wooden floors and light partitions made of plasterboard had to be disposed of and still have to be disposed of.

Info about the flood at the Ottoman Hostel
The July 14 flood severely damaged our dergah. Due to long continuous rain, the earth was completely saturated and finally could not absorb any more water. The level of the neighbouring Urft rose continuously. Finally, there was a flood wave that swept away cars, uprooted trees and construction debris, and completely flooded the lower area of the Osmanische Herberge. By this time, all residents had been evacuated upstairs. The enormous water pressure and floating material shattered the wall to the boiler room and completely damaged the heating system. The two wooden huts behind the dergah kitchen were ripped from their moorings and washed up against the property wall, as was the chicken coop.Just about all of the items, tools, food, and books in the storage rooms of the Osmanische Herberge were destroyed by the force of the flood.
What is the current situation?
In short, the entire lower dergah area must be removed to the core and rebuilt. This includes the small mosque, the dergah kitchen and the dormitories for men and women. In the meantime, the toilets and showers are usable again. The electricity in the lower area is not working properly. We are currently making do with extensions and construction lights and with battery lights. At the moment the men sleep in the big mosque and the women in the seminar room. There is no hot water. Rashid has a wood stove with which he provides hot water for showers (in buckets) in the evening. Food is served in the restaurant. Helpers are welcome but should be prepared. Please bring sleeping bag or blankets, work clothes, rubber shoes, flashlights, etc....Arrival
Due to the flood, the A1 highway is partially closed. GoogleMaps seems to work quite well and offers current detours. The railroad is damaged in many parts of the route between Cologne and Trier, buses are running (rail replacement service). This extends the travel time considerably. How can I help?
